Wyatt and Mommy Mushrooms

I've been making an effort to keep track of the vegetables that Wyatt likes to eat. So while I always try to get him to try new things, I like to have his old favorites as an option. I knew he liked mushrooms and so do I so one day I sauteed some mushrooms and Wyatt got the idea to add some basil from our herb garden. YUM-O! So for your eating enjoyment, here is the recipe for Wyatt and Mommy Mushrooms.

Ingredients:

package of mushrooms

basil plant

garlic

EVOO

Wyatt (or any other eager little chef)

Directions:

Convince Wyatt that he needs to wash his hands before helping. This will take some time. He will try to skip this step in order to move on to something more fun. Stand your ground. Send Wyatt with safety scissors and plastic bowl to herb garden to snip of basil leaves. Pray he doesn't massacre the plant. Have Wyatt climb onto a chair next to you in the kitchen and have him:

• pick the basil leaves off the stems
• wipe mushrooms with a wet paper towel, while listening to him exclaim, "Ewww! Dirty!"

The Mommy then chops the garlic and basil, slices the mushrooms. Heat the EVOO in a skillet. Add mushrooms and saute until browned. Add garlic, watching both garlic and Wyatt to make sure they don't get burned. Add basil, and heat through.

Place yummy mushrooms on both Mommy and Wyatt plates and sit down next to Daddy, who does not have any of "Wyatt and Mommy Mushrooms." Eat heartily and make yummy noises as Daddy looks in disgust. Try not to make Daddy bitter that Wyatt has taken Mommy's side and likes mushrooms, unlike Daddy.
